"Do you know this word?"
Today was my first time landing in Los Angeles, and while the layout of the airport alone is pretty bizarre already, what I saw before getting past the passport checkpoint was even more saddening. An officer — seemingly frustrated by a couple’s English illiteracy — came out of his booth and inspected the next man’s passport. After confirming that his first language is...

sweetupndown: you thought I didn’t really notice. But I did. I wanted to high-five you. Yesterday I had a pair of brothers in my store. One was maybe between 15-17. He was a wrestler at the local high school. Kind of tall, stocky and handsome. He had a younger brother, who was maybe about 10-12 years old. The…

DARREN MURPH: Chris Grant is leaving Joystiq, and... →
This year I’ve had to repeat a lot of things mentioned in this post when people asked me about Engadget, The Verge and AOL. It isn’t short but well worth a read. Also, I wish Chris Grant all the best — it doesn’t take much for one to see what a talented and witty gentleman he is. I will miss him. darrenmurph: [Note: That title should say: ‘Chris Grant is leaving Joystiq,...

10 years ago today
I was 14 and had just started my second year at my boarding school in Wiltshire, UK. I can’t remember exactly what brought me to the boarding house’s TV room in the first place, but I do recall being fixated on the live footage of two skyscrapers up in smoke. The small room was full of quiet students, for a change. My startled self would soon call home, fearing that the same could...

mmmfakecheez: The BBC were talking to a fellow named Richard Lai who was due to fly back to Hong Kong via London but was stranded in New York because of Irene. He admitted that, whilst outside taking pictures right before the brunt of the storm (that comes with 60mph winds), he’d had difficulties with his umbrella. My advice to this chap: BUY A RAINCOAT. Heh, I hate raincoats.

vince-chan asked: Hi Richard. Both sad/happy to see you leave England for HK.
My parents migrated from HK to England many years ago, then I was born, and have been going through secondary school as a yellow in a white world!
I was just wondering what made you want to go back to HK? I am considering doing the same after I've finished education, and I am curious about why you're choosing to...

Well, this sucks. Looks like Apple really ditched the silver cover and slapped a big black dot over the proximity sensor. Not cool.

Can’t wait to show the Sin Tak clown what the real white iPhone 4 is meant to be like, especially its proximity sensor.
